VARN conducted the annual business meeting on Friday February 3rd at the home of Brenda French in Sandy Hook Va. 9 members were present and 1 joined by conference call. There are currently 147 VARN members. The 2016 annual activity report was reviewed in preparation for submission to ARN.
The board voted to donate $500 each to Rehab Nurse Foundation, Carter's Coalition and to Rally for Riley.
The Jeanne Gant Memorial Scholarship will again be available. The amount will be determined once interest for attending is evaluated. Up to 5 scholarships are available for $500. VARN is aware the distance to Seattle for the ARN annual meeting November 8th to 11th may be prohibitive. Please watch for a survey coming to your email soon. VARN will be using Constant Contact to assist with our next member survey and your input is very important to help guide our upcoming activities. Please respond to the short survey once you receive it.
VARN is working with the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety in Ruckersville, Va (north of Charlottesville) to present our next conference. We had initially planned for an April conference however due to a conflict with and educational opportunity from IARP on April 20th, we will host this conference in May. Date will be provided as soon as the crash testing schedule is available from IIHS. Members will be able to tour the facility, watch a vehicle crash test and participate in crash avoidance demonstrations. We will have experts present on identification and treatment of PTSD post MVA and a driver rehab specialists from the VA share his knowledge of driver re-training/adaptive driving. VARN will use Eventbrite as an option for on-line registration for this event.
